FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOCAL AUTHOR SPINS SECOND STORY FEATURING BABY BOOMERS & SALISH SEA
ANACORTES, WA (May 6, 2026) — Set on fictional Wren Island, Far From Unremarkable is a contemporary story about 70-year-old Wallace Bernard, who moves to a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, ideal digs for a man accustomed to being invisible. Drawn by magnetic neighbors into troubleshooting a stalled-out romance, an aimless youngster’s prospects, and an unworldly woman’s sway toward independence, Wallace becomes a trusted member of his new community—unaware he is inextricably linked to one neighbor’s enduring grief.
Fans of Laura Joy Lloyd’s debut novel, Interesting Enough (published June 2025), will recognize restorative Wren Island as the setting for Far From Unremarkable, a heartwarming story about embracing community, pursuing friendship, and cherishing loved ones.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Lloyd has always been intrigued by how real-life experiences influence storytelling. Through an innovative style she calls interactive serialized fiction, Lloyd invites readers to influence Wren Island novels in real time as she writes.
About how readers influenced Far From Unremarkable, Lloyd said, “Similar to how they influenced Interesting Enough, readers asked to see unexpected friendships develop on the page. Relationships between people learning to truly care about each other—despite differences and occasional blunders. And of course, readers asked for whales to be part of the story. Wren Island becomes extra special every time our beloved orcas visit!”
Wren Island novels are available in e-book and paperback formats through most major retailers. In support of her community, Lloyd encourages readers to request Wren Island novels at independently owned bookstores and public libraries. Each novel includes a discussion guide, and the author welcomes invitations to join local book club discussions.
To celebrate the release of Far From Unremarkable, Lloyd will collaborate with the Anacortes Public Library and Watermark Book Company to offer an Author Q&A on Wednesday, June 3, 6:00 P.M. at the Anacortes Public Library.
